Description
Crosshaven is a beautiful village in South County Cork in Ireland, not far from where we live in Ballinhassig. If we get a beautiful day in February during winter, we often jump in the car and head out for a lovely breakfast looking out on the bay.
I am fascinated by how shadows fall and how what is behind me when I capture a photo, leads the viewer into my painting, and what we experienced. I activated the canvas once the image was drawn up, with alcohol ink runs and a Magenta Deep acrylic wash. I purposefully chose to reveal more of this underpainting in this work, as it lent itself well to the patterns that shadows form on the ground.
I love the colourful houses in the distance, and how the bay curves around towards the Cork Harbour in the far distance. The crips winter sky and interestign cloud formations enhance the painting and keeping the viewer’s eye in the work.
