I have been commissioned to do the most incredible paintings for people. A heart with ventricles containing fuschias for a medical student wanting to become a cardiothoratic surgeon as a 21st gift from her Mum, a pair of pink boxing gloves as a survivor gift for someone in remission from breast cancer, a memorial portrait for a young man’s 21st birthday of his Dad, killed in the line of duty when he was 4… and the list goes on.
Wedding gifts, 50th birthday gifts, celebrating friendship, 30th wedding anniversaries, engagement gifts, paintings of grandkids, father’s day gifts, celebrating adoption day new family portraits, florals for a home office, pet portraits, 21sts, 60ths, favourite flowers, typically South African wildlife or animals, a Golf Club’s President’s Prize…
Each one so special to the recipient, and to the person commissioning the work. Sometimes with international commissions, I can be coordinating an artwork with people spread across three different continents and timezones. Sometimes, I am even invited to personally present the art piece to the recipient.
Every single painting is a unique, treasured piece of original work, and I love the fact that I have been part of people’s lives in such a special way and vice versa.
