Description
The Lough is a Public Wildlife Refuge and is one of Ireland’s oldest protected areas, situated in the south-west of Cork City. It is a freshwater, limestone lake with an island in the centre. There is a variety of bird life and is also home to beautiful swans.
Our first visit to the Cork Lough was on a crisp winter day, and the walk around the lake was invigorating. I captured this beautiful swan on my camera, and soon she became the star of one of my paintings and is now “Swan of the Lough”. I enjoyed painting her beautiful feathers with a palette knife and capturing her gracious reflection in the water.
